Mini-grants are non-competitive awards that typically do not exceed $1,500. Individuals in the School of Social Sciences who are eligible for these awards include tenured and tenure-track faculty, Professors in the Practice, postdoctoral fellows, and lecturers. Proposals are evaluated as they are received, and awards are made throughout the year or until fiscal year funds have been depleted. The grants are to cover graduate or undergraduate research time and the associated fringe benefits, the purchase of supplies, including research-related software or hardware, research-related travel expenses, consultant costs, and miscellaneous research expenses. Conference travel is not permitted. Individuals are eligible for this program only if their research accounts or other available funds cannot cover the purchases.
Submit the following to the Social Science Research Institute Office (Baker 180-I) or to Chris Rodriguez (email@example.com; 713-348-2985). Please note that all application materials should be prepared using a minimum of 11-point Arial or Times New Roman and one-inch margins. Questions related to the preparation of the application packet should also be directed to Chris.

The primary criterion for a successful proposal is how immediately necessary the request seems to be to facilitate the research project. Is the purchase integral to the continuation and success of the project?
Those who receive a mini-grant must use the funds before the end of the calendar year in which they are awarded. Any funds remaining on December 31st of the award year will be recovered by the SSRI. If this timeline presents a problem, please contact Chris so that the issue can be resolved.
